Your Guide to Packing for a Motorhome Holiday

Packing for a motorhome holiday is a balance between bringing what you need and keeping the living space tidy. A little planning goes a long way. Before you pack, take a look at what's included with your hire, so you don't bring things you will already have on board.

1. Planning Ahead

Check the weather: Look at the forecast for your destination and route, and pack accordingly.

Make a list: Divide it into categories such as clothing, kitchen, toiletries and outdoor gear so nothing gets forgotten.

2. Clothing

Layers: Pack clothing you can layer for changing weather: t-shirts, long-sleeved tops, jumpers and a jacket.

Versatile pieces: Choose items that work in several situations, such as walking trousers that also work as casual wear.

Footwear: Bring comfortable walking shoes and sandals, plus walking boots or wellies if you need them. Leave muddy footwear in a bag or by the door.

Waterproofs: Pack a waterproof jacket and trousers, plus hats and gloves if it will be cold.

Swimwear: Handy for beaches, lakes and campsite pools.

3. Kitchen Essentials

Check what's provided: See what kitchen equipment is included with your motorhome before you pack, then bring only what is missing. Non-stick pans and collapsible bowls save space if you do bring your own.

Food storage: Stackable, reusable containers are great for leftovers and keep the fridge and cupboards tidy.

Cleaning: Bring washing-up liquid, a sponge, tea towels and bin bags.

Store cupboard: Pasta, rice, tins and snacks are easy to store. Plan your meals, and stop at a local shop or farm shop on the way.

4. Toiletries and Personal Care

Travel sizes: Use travel-sized bottles or decant products into small refillable containers.

The basics: Shampoo, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant and any personal items you need.

First aid: A small first aid kit with plasters, antiseptic wipes, pain relief and any prescription medication.

Towels: Quick-dry microfibre towels take up less space and dry fast. Check whether bedding and towels are included with your hire, and bring your own if not.

5. Outdoor Gear

Chairs and table: Folding chairs and a small table make outdoor meals much more comfortable.

Barbecue: A small portable barbecue is great, but check the campsite allows them, and never use one inside or under the awning.

Activity gear: Walking poles, a football, fishing gear or whatever you enjoy. Ask us first if you want to carry bikes or other equipment on the motorhome.

6. Entertainment and Comfort

Rainy days: Books, board games and cards.

Devices: Phones, tablets, e-readers and chargers. A power bank is useful if you are not on a hook-up.

Home comforts: A cosy blanket, your own pillow and a favourite mug make a motorhome feel like home.

7. Other Essentials

Navigation: Download offline maps in case you lose signal in remote areas. Remember that a motorhome is taller and wider than a car, so check height and width limits on your route.

Documents: Your photocard driving licence, booking confirmation and any campsite reservations. Keep them together in a folder.

Reusable bags: For shopping on the way.

8. Packing Tips

Save space: Roll clothes rather than folding them, and use packing cubes or soft bags, which store more easily than hard suitcases.

Keep things you need to hand: Store everyday items where you can reach them easily, and keep waterproofs and the first aid kit accessible.

Stow heavy items low: Place heavier items low and close to the axle, secure everything before you drive, and stay within the motorhome's payload limit. We will explain this at handover.

Pack thoughtfully, keep it simple, and enjoy the freedom of the open road.
