Showering in a Motorhome: Tips and Advice
Showering in a motorhome is a little different from showering at home. Space and water are limited, but with a few simple habits you can enjoy a comfortable, refreshing shower wherever you are. Our motorhomes have a hot shower and toilet on board, and here is how to get the most from them.
1. Make the Most of the Space
Keep it tidy: Motorhome showers are compact, so take only what you need in with you. A small caddy that hangs from the showerhead, or a few items kept in a bag outside, keeps the floor clear.
Mind the curtain: Let the curtain hang freely inside the shower so it doesn't cling to you, and make sure it is fully inside the tray so water doesn't escape.
Towels and mats: Bring a small non-slip mat for the shower tray, and hang your towel on a hook just outside so it stays dry.
2. Water Conservation
Know your supply: Your motorhome carries a limited supply of fresh water, so shorter showers mean you can go longer between top-ups. Aim for around five minutes.
The navy shower: Turn the water on to wet yourself, turn it off while you lather and scrub, then turn it back on to rinse. This can cut your water use dramatically.
Top up when you can: Fill the fresh water tank whenever you pass a tap, and empty the waste water at a proper disposal point. We will show you how at your handover.
3. Heating the Water
Switch it on early: Our motorhomes have gas and electric hot water. Turn the water heater on a little while before your shower so there is plenty of hot water, and switch it off afterwards to save gas.
Use the hook-up: On a campsite with an electric hook-up you can heat the water on electricity and save your gas.
4. Managing Moisture and Ventilation
Ventilate: Open the bathroom window or roof vent while you shower, and leave it open afterwards so steam can escape. This prevents condensation, damp and mould.
Dry down: Wipe the walls and floor of the shower with a towel or squeegee when you've finished, and leave the shower door or curtain open to dry.
5. Packing Your Toiletries
Multi-use products: 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner or an all-in-one body wash saves space and clutter.
Travel sizes: Use travel-sized bottles or decant products into small refillable containers.
6. Looking After the Shower
Keep the drain clear: Try to keep hair and soap residue out of the shower drain. Clear it after each shower to avoid blockages.
Wipe it down: Wipe the surfaces after use with a damp cloth. Please use only mild cleaning products, and call us if you notice a leak or anything not working properly.
7. Making It Enjoyable
Campsite facilities: Many campsites have excellent shower blocks. Using them saves your own water, especially on longer trips.
Personal touches: A favourite shower gel, a good towel and a waterproof speaker can make your shower a little treat.
Showering in a motorhome doesn't have to be a compromise. With these tips you can enjoy a refreshing, efficient shower wherever the road takes you.
